Jerry Hertaus, the right and easy choice for mayor

The decision of who I believe will be a great Mayor for Greenfield was an easy one for me. I have known Jerry Hertaus for several years and consider him to be just the type of leader our city needs going forward.

Jerry and I have served together on Greenfield’s Planning Commission. With Jerry’s knowledge of municipal government, and leadership skills, he was the unanimous choice to be Chairman of the Planning Commission. I learned many positive things from this experience with him.

When the Rockford-Greenfield Area Chamber of Commerce was formed, Jerry was a huge part of it. Once again, his peers on the Chamber recognized Jerry’s decades of business ownership and leadership skills and elected him as their first President.

Jerry knows that the role of Mayor for Greenfield is not one of constant oversight and micro managing of city staff.ugg christmasbrand name watches We have all seen the disharmony a constant interference with, a past hands-on role by our mayors and council members can create amongst the city’s capable employees. This is not what Greenfield needs. Being Mayor of Greenfield is not and should not be a full-time job.

In addition, Jerry becoming Mayor will not create an open seat on the council. A vacated council seat would require an appointment having to be made to the council, by the council. Greenfield should elect and not appoint its representatives.

Rockford soccer playoff hopes get shut down

The Rockford soccer teams had some big hurdles to clear this season and managed to be competitive at the finish line.

Both teams lost first-round games in the Section 6A tournament Tuesday. The No. 11 seed girls lost to No. 6 Waconia 2-0 and the No. 14 boys were topped by No. 3 Orono 7-1.

The girls finished strong despite missing some key players down the stretch due to injuries. The defense was hit the hardest.

Still, the Rockets were able to generate scoring opportunities against Waconia, ugg boots but the team was unable to convert them into goals.

A week earlier, junior defender Emily Botten injured an ankle. Junior defender Ashley Pietsch needed hip surgery the last part of September. Sophomore defender Morgan Aubel was slowed by shin splints and an injured knee.

The biggest loss was when sophomore midfielder Ashley Dick suffered torn knee ligaments against Orono Sept. 28.

The good news for coach Rob Michels was how a leader on offense,LED junior Madison Comb, was back to form after missing four games at mid-season with a sore lower back.

Comb combined with junior forward Mary Nelson to put pressure on the Waconia goal. The first time the teams met earlier in the season, Waconia won 7-1.

“We had a lot of player development this year,” notes Michels about how so many saw varsity action due to the rash of injuries. “We do have excitement about the future with a lot of eighth and ninth-graders developing and nearly the entire varsity returns.”

The only seniors are Ashley Anderson and Megan Johnson.orgasm The top forwards this year were sophomore Briana Gall, Nelson, Comb and junior Sarah Nielsen. The midfielders were Anderson, sophomore Amanda Thingvold, junior Mikayla Bartlett and ninth-grader Abby Botten was moved up from the junior varsity late in the season.

Other defenders were Johnson, juniors Emily Koenen and Lacey Tusler, plus sophomores Jayda Palmer, KaLeigh Dwinell and Megan Clouse. Eighth-grader Brianna Calder was moved up from the JV. Junior Meredith Brickley played the entire season in goal.

The Rocket boys made a big jump from last year’s winless season to go 5-8-1. Last year Rockford was outscored 146-6 compared to 56-28 this season.

The scoring leaders were two foreign exchange students. Francis Kang from South Korea led the team in goal scoring with 16. Tommy Schmitz from Germany led the team in points (21) with three goals and 18 assists.

Coach Mike Leipholtz said the highlight of the season was the 4-3 road victory over Minnewaska, a team that had dominated Rockford the past several years.

“In some ways, beating them brought a new sense of legitimacy to our team,” said Leipholtz. “Out of that came a higher degree of confidence and belief that they can achieve our goals.”

The coach was happy to see his players start to experience some success. Leipholtz adds, “Winning is not everything, but it helps when trying to rebuild a program. I am so proud of the players for their dedication, commitment and endless hard work.”

Rockford was so young this season that it scheduled some junior varsity opponents. The team had no seniors, just three juniors, eight sophomores and five ninth-graders on varsity.

India Inc lines up bond sale plans after RIL’s record issue

Enthused by corporate giant Reliance Industries’ $1.Ed Hardy wholesale5-billion dollar bond sale, a host of companies have lined up plans to raise funds through sale of bonds in global markets. While more than half a dozen companies, including the likes of Anil Ambani group firm Reliance Communications, ICICI Bank,
Axis Bank and Essar Energy, have already firmed up their bond issuance plans,LV Handbags others are also looking to tap this fund-raising route, banking sources said.

RIL’s record $1.5 billion bond sale has come as a boost for India Inc, a senior banking official said, adding that international debt market has emerged as a major avenue in the backdrop of India emerging as a major source for foreign funds.

Given the recent surge in inflow of foreign funds into stocks raising concerns about over-heating in the Indian equity market, funds invested through bonds is becoming a relatively safer way,UGG boots he added.

The bankers said that the Indian companies in final stages of fund-raising through bonds include public sector firm Rural Electrification Corp (REC), ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, JSW Steel, Ruias-promoted Essar group’s London-listed arm Essar Energy Plc, IDBI Bank as also telecom major RCOM.

The analysts said that the impressive success of RIL’s first bond issue after 13 years has given a huge boost to India Inc’s plans of raising money in the international markets.

Billionaire Mukesh Ambani-run RIL late last week sold $1 billion of 10-year notes and $500 million of 30-year bonds. Reliance Holding USA Inc, a wholly owned subsidiary of RIL, priced the 10-year notes athigher than even the similar maturity US Treasury notes.

While RIL, India’s most valuable company and the only corporate from Asia to receive ratings higher than its sovereign from both Moody’s and Standard & Poor’s, was expected to succeed with the offering, the avid interest shown by the international investors has excited many companies waiting in the wings.

Rural Electrification Corporation (REC), which was recently granted Infrastructure Finance Company status by the RBI, could be the next Indian company to raise funds through bonds. The company is planning to raise $500 million via bond issue in Europe, Singapore and Hong Kong in the coming months.

Besides, ICICI Bank is also expected to sell as much as $1 billion debt papers, while at least two other banks, Axis Bank and IDBI Bank are also believed to be preparing for bond sales.

Floating at the Edge of a Dream

Floating at the Edge of a Dream

The stellar record of the amateur boxer Erick De Leon, who is undefeated in this country for three years in his weight class, should make fighting for the United States in the 2012 Olympics a natural next step. Instead, De Leon’s biggest fight is not in the ring, but with the United States immigration system.

De Leon, 18, was born in a tiny town in northern Mexico. His parents brought him and three siblings to the United States when he was 6, but because of the difficulties in acquiring citizenship for minors, they never bothered to apply.

The lack of citizenship did not hold back De Leon as he won the national Police Athletic League championship in the 132-pound weight class in 2009, along with the national Golden Gloves titles in 2009 and 2010. But in an Olympic qualifying year, noncitizens are prohibited from fighting in national championships.

That realization left De Leon and his coaches scrambling this summer to expedite his citizenship application, a process that normally can take about eight months. De Leon must have his citizenship by the end of this year to compete in qualifying for the 2012 Olympics — and fighting in the Olympics has been his goal for years.

“I want to say, I made the Olympic team, and that’s all I dream about all the time — going to fight for that gold medal,” said De Leon, who is known as a slugger who tends to overpower opponents, but has been adapting his game to fight worldwide.

Ed Weichers, a coach with USA Boxing, the national governing body of amateur boxing, said that De Leon deserved the opportunity to fight for the United States — for no more reason than that American boxers do not want to have to face De Leon fighting for Mexico.

“He’s a talent; he’s a prospect; he’s 18 years old, and he’s doing great things,” Weichers said. “My comment to him was, I just didn’t want to see him represent Mexico, or wear a Mexican uniform. I wanted to see him wearing the red, white and blue colors.”

American boxing is looking to rebound from its dismal showing at the 2008 Games, when fighters from the United States won only one medal — a bronze.

At the Southwest Boxing Gym, run by one of De Leon’s coaches, Roberto Aguilar, in the Detroit neighborhood called Mexicantown, members of several nationalities compete. There is a big American flag over the ring, but a pair of red, white and green boxing gloves stamped with the flag of Mexico hangs on the wall.

De Leon, who was at the gym recently to spar with Aguilar’s 16-year-old son, Alejandro, wears a boxing helmet emblazoned with the Mexican flag. The gym, on the second floor of an old Masonic temple with sagging ceilings, has a fitness room, a heavy bag room and a ring that reverberates with the sound of hip-hop.

Once the buzzer keened,Ray Ban Sunglasses everyone went quiet as De Leon and Aguilar circled each other, eyes locked. As they punched, the floor shook.

“Let’s box, baby,” Roberto Aguilar said.

De Leon, a natural left-hander, grew up from the age of 7 fighting right-handed, much like his boxing idol Oscar De La Hoya. Aguilar, who is also left-handed, began training De Leon as a left-hander as soon as he realized De Leon’s natural inclination about six years ago. Now, De Leon can switch his lead hands seamlessly in the middle of a round, although Aguilar discourages him from doing so.

“When you’re switching, you’re vulnerable for that split second,” Aguilar said. “Erick does it so well, you can’t see it, but his opponent could catch it, or it could be a fluke and he throws a punch, and that’s all it takes. You only get to lose once at the Olympics, and once you’ve lost, guess what? It’s over.”

Aguilar is also trying to get De Leon to moderate his tendency to slug at his opponent, and increase his accuracy and consistency. In amateur boxing, a scoring blow does not have to be hard, it just has to land.In the past few years, the coach bags is welcoming accepting very much , it is that the nobleman represents and also makes its to become many country stars suiting to choose coach bags. In the past three years, De Leon has been defeated twice, in Europe most notably by a British boxer who tapped away until judges awarded him the match.

When the buzzer rang for 30 seconds left in the session against Aguilar, De Leon’s jabs underwent a transformation, and he started hooking into him repeatedly, despite cautionary words from Roberto Aguilar.

“Oh, that buzzer made the Mexican come out,” Aguilar said. “Erick, you’re thinking about banging, mi hijo. Let’s box.”

That talent for slugging will be an asset when De Leon starts boxing professionally, where at least part of the object is knocking out an opponent. Detroit has produced some great boxers, including Joe Louis, Thomas Hearns and Milton McCrory. Many, including De Leon, have been coached by Emanuel Steward, the founder of Detroit’s Kronk Gym.

“He’s a superstar,These gucci handbags will satisfy basically you arrogant and the confidence. Down to most important will be is similarly so the sex appeal you will attract the man in two aspect Gucci handbag and the confidence with as well as the women’s envy heart.” Steward said of De Leon.

Ebook popularity on the rise but publishers fearing ‘Napster moment’

Scores of readers have embraced devices like Kindles and iPads, but their newfound popularity has also brought about concerns that ebooks are having a “Napster moment.”

Google searches for illegal downloads are up 50 per cent in the last year. Publishers hope to appeal to readers to make the right choice, said Jim Pitkow of Attributor, a company that attempts to track and fight copyright infringement.

“I think there’s a hope that we can do things different than the other industries have done before,” he said, with a particular nod to the music industry, which has endured a painful struggle ever since the MP3 format took hold.

“What we’d like to try … is to see if people care about the (ebook) choices they make, similar to how they care about fair trade and where they buy their coffee, and how their clothes were produced.

“There appears to be less angst towards book publishers than to music labels. People tend to be connected to the books they read in a different way, the relationship is different than with music.”

In a recent study,,nhl authentic jerseys , Attributor created a series of fake download websites for the most popular ebooks on Amazon’s bestseller list and tapped into Google search statistics to assess the state of ebook piracy. The report estimates there are as many as 1.This is the best Ed Hardy Clothing Shop, providing high quality Ed hardy clothing ,Ed Hardy T-Shirts,Ed Hardy Shoes,Ed Hardy Jeans,Ed Hardy Hoodies,bags,etc.5 million to three million Google searches registered daily for illegal ebook downloads and interest jumped by about 20 per cent after the release of Apple’s iPad tablet.

But Attributor also embedded some links to Amazon’s ebook store on those dummy pages and about one in five web surfers ended up buying a legitimate copy of the ebook they were searching for.

“That shows us that people are malleable and they’re open to the different choices they can make,” Pitkow said.

While Attributor only collected limited demographic information about the web surfers looking for pirated ebooks, the list of the most requested titles is revealing.

The most searched-for book was Stephenie Meyer’s latest “Twilight” novel “Breaking Dawn,” followed by “Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman’s Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia” by Elizabeth Gilbert, and “The Power, cosplay” a self-help book by Rhonda Byrne, who has been featured on the “The Oprah Winfrey Show.”

Pitkow said he hopes the company’s next study will reveal more about the users pirating ebooks and the resulting cost to the publishing industry.

Coral bleaching in the Caribbean

Coral bleaching in the Caribbean

Due to above-average water temperatures in the Caribbean Sea, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicts that coral bleaching will be very likely this year.

It may even be as severe as 2005 when 80 percent of corals were bleached and 40 percent died. There have been reports from several sites already in the Caribbean as well as from other parts of the world.

Coral bleaching is the whitening of otherwise colorful corals due to stress-caused death or expulsion of the zooxanthellae, unicellular protozoa (algae) that live in a symbiotic relationship with the corals. The zooxanthellae are photosynthetic organisms that live within the tissues and give the coral its distinct coloration. When they go, so does the color, causing the coral to become white or “bleached.” The stress is triggered by environmental changes such as a change in temperature, change in water chemistry,Shop for high quality sneaker wholesale in bags , shoes & accessories products. lack of zooplankton (what the coral eats), or increased sedimentation.

The most common stress is increasing temperature, which is what’s happening in the Caribbean, particularly the southeast Caribbean. “High temperatures cause corals to force out the symbiotic algae that provide them with food. This makes the corals appear white or ‘bleached’ and can increase outbreaks of infectious disease,” said Mark Eakin, Ph.D., coordinator of NOAA’s Coral Reef Watch.

Prolonged coral bleaching can often be fatal to the coral, and potentially devastating to the coral reef ecosystem, home to an abundance of marine biodiversity. It can also have an economic impact on the communities in places like the Caribbean,Discover the Italian luxury fashion house of Fendi. The sea temperature rise is bad this year, but not quite as bad as 2005. That year’s coral bleaching was result of the most intense thermal stress ever recorded in the Caribbean. However, this year marks another serious loss of coral habitat in the tropics. NOAA has conducted a scientific survey off the coasts of Texas and Louisiana, plus constant satellite monitoring under the Coral Reef Watch program.
